Stop saying sorry for being the TRUE you!

You know the feeling…

Someone suggests doing something that isn’t your cup of tea, and you end up apologising for not being on the same page or wave length as them.

You feel guilty for not doing the thing they want to do, or the activity they’re super excited about, which is why you apologise profusely.

As well as shrugging off the ‘embarrassment’ you laugh, slightly sigh and utter the words: sorry, boring I know! (Another apology thrown in just for good measure at this point!).

But you should really ask yourself…

Why am I apologising for being me?

Why are we apologising for our interests not being aligned with others. And especially when you’re probably saying sorry to someone who isn’t that important in your life. (No throwing shade here…)

We never expect the other person to say sorry for suggesting something we don’t like. So why do we immediately apologise for being boring, or not being the same as them?

Here’s some unpopular opinions that I have:

And ones that I will absolutely NOT apologise for!

1. I’m not a big drinker

God forbid I say no to alcohol – I must be BORING!

2. I cannot stand Starbucks

I wouldn’t even use the toilet in there let alone go there.

I have my reasons…

3. I cannot deal with phone calls

Please don’t phone me, like EVER! If you want a chat I prefer to do it in person.

4. Velvet makes me gag

Like LITERALLY!

5. I think Encanto has a weak storyline

All Disney fans look away (me included!). I’m a big Disney fan, yet I spotted the core focus of the storyline at the start, it was pretty obvious and the execution of the reveal wasn’t the best. Plus, I felt the ending was rushed.

I feel the film is only rated for the songs, personally. I LOVE Disney but not a fan of this one, it’s a 4/10 for me.

We don’t talk about Encanto, no, no!

6. I don’t like rollercoasters

I’m not an adrenaline junkie and being thrown or spun around at a great height and at speed, is not my idea of fun.

It’s a NO from me.

7. I won’t eat steak.

I’m not a big meat eater anyway. It’s the texture. The chewing…

And steak is the worst of them all for me.

8. Jewellery is NOT my best friend

I don’t wear jewellery and cannot touch other people’s jewellery – the horror, the germs, just NO!

Buy me flowers and chocolate over jewellery any day!

9. Peacocks are NOT beautiful

I have a strong hate towards peacocks. Being followed and tormented by one in France as a child has built this level of disgust I have towards them.

Yes, I said what I said!

The list goes on and I’m sure no one has time for that.

But the point is this…

We shouldn’t feel ashamed of being who we are; we shouldn’t bury and hide our quirks as that’s what makes us unique. It’s the most striking part of ourselves, we need to embrace it and appreciate our sheer authenticity.

Imagine if superheroes like Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman or Superman (just to name a few) hid their powers from the world.

No one would be saved.

The thought alone is crazy. Why would one possess such a power and not use it for good, or at least share it with the world?

Whilst we know superheroes are fictitious characters, what’s real is YOU.

You being you, regardless of your quicks or unpopular opinions is your POWER.

A power ONLY you possess and it’s one that the world needs.

Use your power, share it with the world and please don’t ever apologise for being the true you.
