What this photo doesn’t tell you…

In this photo I look happy here, right?

I’m smiling and giggling so I must be happy, right?

Wrong.

Yes, in this moment when the photo was taken I was happy. I was at a pumpkin patch with my most favourite person in the world so naturally I was happy and that smile was all for him.

But what you don’t see is the breakdown that I had in the morning. (That happened literally a couple of hours before this photo was taken).

Or the flood of tears I was in over thoughts that were consuming my mind, worries that I couldn’t silence and a down, deflated mood that I couldn’t shake.

The emotions were VERY intense and I couldn’t pinpoint why I felt the way that I did.

I actually cried on and off all day, believe it or not. There was an unhappiness stirring inside me that was overwhelming.

And that’s why I wanted to share this post as a reminder.

Just because someone is smiling on the surface does not mean that they are happy!

Just because someone is laughing and cracking jokes does not mean they are on top of the world.

Sometimes a smile or a laugh is a front. It’s  a way of hiding something from the world because you don’t want to bring the mood down, or quite simply because you’re not comfortable opening up with how you truly feel.

Not every smile or laugh suggests happiness it can indicate something else entirely.

Don’t assume just because someone looks happy that they are.

Please always check in on family, friends and loved ones. Even the seemingly strong and joyful ones.

We all go through struggles, some just mask it better than others. And that’s why we need to always be kind and randomly check in on each other.

You don’t know how much someone could really need that: Hey, just checking in – how are you? message.

If there’s been times where you’ve REALLY needed it; I guarantee you, you’re not alone!
